How we work

Editorial policy

How Bruny Island Guide researches, writes, sources and updates its guides, and what we will never publish.

Published

Bruny Island Guide publishes independent, practical information about visiting Bruny Island, Tasmania. This page explains how we work.

Who writes our guides

Our guides are researched and written by the Bruny Island Guide editorial team. We are not a booking agent or tourism operator, and we do not speak for any business we mention. Where a topic needs specialist knowledge, we summarise the official source and link to it.

How we research

  • Primary sources first. We check facts against the people responsible for them. That means park and land managers, government agencies, councils, transport operators and the businesses themselves.
  • Search research. We look at the questions people actually ask, including common search questions, to decide what to cover. We answer those questions from primary sources.
  • Local context. We favour specific, useful detail over generic copy, and we say when something varies by season, weather or operator.

What we will not publish

  • invented statistics, prices, ratings or rankings
  • quotes attributed to people we have not spoken to
  • opening hours, fares or fees that may be out of date (we link to the official page instead)
  • claims we cannot trace to a source

How we choose what to cover

We start with the questions readers bring to us: the ones in our inbox, in common search questions and in the conversations we see in forums and visitor centres. A topic earns a page when we can answer it better than a quick search result can, with clearer structure, more context and links to the people responsible for the facts. We would rather publish fewer, deeper guides than many thin ones.

How a page is put together

Each guide follows the same process. We outline the questions it must answer. We research each answer from primary sources and note those sources. We draft in plain Australian English, then check every factual claim against its source. Before publishing, we check internal links, headings, page speed and mobile layout. Where a page includes safety information, it points to the official authority rather than paraphrasing rules that may change.

Images

We use photographs we have the right to publish, including licensed stock and openly licensed images with attribution where it is required. Images illustrate the topic. They are not evidence of current conditions. We do not alter photographs in ways that misrepresent a place, a product or an animal.

Accessibility

We write descriptive headings, add alternative text to meaningful images and keep pages readable on small screens. If something on the site is hard to use with assistive technology, please tell us and we will fix it.

Our review cycle

We review key guides at least once a year and sooner when official information changes, a reader reports a problem or a season changes how a place works. When we make a material change, we update the date shown on the page.

Dates and updates

Every guide shows when it was published and when it was last updated. We review guides when official information changes and when readers report problems.

Corrections

If you find something wrong, please tell us through the contact page with a link to a primary source. We review every report and update pages where needed.

Independence and trademarks

We do not accept payment for favourable coverage. Trademarks, logos and business names belong to their owners. Mentioning them does not imply endorsement either way.

Frequently asked questions

Do businesses pay to appear in Bruny Island Guide guides?

No. Our guides are editorial. If we ever publish a sponsored or affiliate link, we label it clearly. Payment never decides what we recommend or how we describe it.

How do I report an error?

Use our contact page. Include the page address, the correction and, ideally, a link to a primary source. We review every report.

Why don't you list prices or opening times?

Operators change prices, timetables and opening hours often. Rather than print figures that may be out of date, we link to the official source and ask readers to confirm before they travel or buy.
