The Bruny Island ferry carries vehicles and passengers across the D’Entrecasteaux Channel from Kettering on mainland Tasmania to Roberts Point on North Bruny. The crossing takes around 20 minutes and runs throughout the day, every day. The service is operated by SeaLink.
How the ferry works
- Drive to the Kettering terminal, about 35–45 minutes south of Hobart.
- Join the queue in the marked lanes. If you have pre-booked, follow the signs for booked vehicles.
- Drive on when directed by crew.
- Drive off at Roberts Point and follow the main road south.
Timetables, fares and booking rules change from season to season, so always check the current timetable on SeaLink’s official website before you travel. We deliberately do not reprint times here because out-of-date timetables cause missed ferries.
Avoiding the queues
- Book ahead in December–February, at Easter, on long weekends and during school holidays.
- Travel early or late. Mid-morning departures to the island and late-afternoon returns are busiest.
- Leave buffer time for the last return ferry of the day.
- Avoid peak returns on summer Sunday afternoons.
Foot passengers and cyclists
